Charlotte School of Law Selects OTAir University Alert System for Sending Emergency Notifications Using Text Messaging
Richmond, VA and Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) July 31, 2007 -- OTAir LLC, a national provider of comprehensive mobile marketing and communication services, announced today an agreement with Charlotte School of Law to provide text messaging services for rapid distribution of campus emergency and security alerts. Using OTAir's University Alert notification system, authorized officials will be able to contact students, faculty, staff and local authorities instantly through text messages and email.
The University Alert broadcast system can be used to reach all students or specific groups for class cancellations, sports scores, weather alerts, emergencies, or any situation where instant communication is a necessity.
"OTAir's University Alert system met the many rigorous qualifications that we needed in an emergency notification application," says Ryan Haylock, Director of Information Technology Services at Charlotte School of Law. "The system functionality, services, and custom applications that OTAir provides go above and beyond other competitors that we researched in this field."
Several start-up companies are beginning to enter the mobile alert and notification industry with limited experience and a system that doesn't take advantage of the true possibilities of mobile technology. In addition to OTAir's proven experience in a variety of industries beyond education, many prospective clients ask what sets OTAir apart.
"OTAir is a full-service marketing and communications company," says Chris Littleton, co-founder of OTAir. "With our greater system functionality, schools can broadcast messages to a few or many, send many types of informative messages in addition to security alerts, provide for online registration of alerts in a matter of minutes, and interact with recipients in real-time. Our prices are lower than most other service providers, thereby allowing an institution to cover the entire community of students and personnel, which is an issue many schools have raised when comparing OTAir with competitors," continues Littleton. "We also have improved features like remote broadcasting that allow any designated university official to securely send broadcasts instantly from their cell phone as a text message, not through the phone or PDAs web browser."
Students, faculty and staff can sign up for alert notifications from Charlotte School of Law through a variety of methods. Individuals can subscribe by sending a text message, online through the school's secure website, inputted manually by an administrator, or uploaded as part of a list of university students and personnel. Alert notifications can also be tailored by an individual for a specific group, allowing them to receive alerts only during a particular time frame. Conversely, alerts can also be set up by the school or institution that are mandatory, ensuring that emergency security or weather alerts reach the entire subscribed university population.
Students, faculty, staff and others will be notified by Charlotte School of Law when alert registration is available and how to sign up. Additional information concerning privacy, opt-out, system testing, and more will also be provided as such policies and procedures are finalized. Participants will not be charged for sending or receiving messages apart from standard text messaging fees from their wireless service provider depending on the terms of their individual wireless service plan. Participants will not receive marketing messages as a result of registering for security alerts.

The Power of Love and SMS Messages
I'd had a full week and was dead tired. All I looked forwarded to was 5 pm, a few beers and the weekend. Teaching young Emirati/Arab ladies about human resources and business communication in English was always going to be a challenge given their varying levels of English comprehension. Trying to find a meeting of minds with anyone can be a challenge, let alone those who speak English as a second language. But occasionally I knew I was getting my message across and that these ladies would benefit from the knowledge and skills they were learning.
