Texting for Traffic -- TrafficGauge for Cell Phone Offers Free, Real-Time Traffic Maps for Top U.S. Cities
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) November 10, 2006 -- TrafficGauge® has announced the release of its newest service, TrafficGauge for Cell Phone (TG Cell). This free beta program, which sends detailed traffic conditions directly to cellular phones via text and picture messaging, currently is available in 17 U.S. cities including: Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Louisville, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Orange County, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, Seattle, San Diego, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the San Fernando Valley.
"Our service doesn't require a subscription, nor does it require the user to go through a complicated learning process and confusing data plans," said Ryan Peterson, Founder and CEO, TrafficGauge. "We don't want commuters distracted by a series of prompts so we've made it very simple to use and easy to refresh throughout a driver's commute."
Access to TG Cell can be found by going to www.trafficgauge.com and clicking the "Cell Phone" tab. After entering their telephone number, users receive their first message from TrafficGauge. Replying to this message will generate a new message from TG Cell displaying real-time, detailed traffic information within one to five minutes. The map indicates areas of heavy (red), medium (yellow), and light (green) congestion. Refreshing the map updates traffic conditions. Commuters can zoom into a specific segment of their commute after refreshing traffic conditions by entering a number (1-9) corresponding to that area of the map. A complete overview of city's freeway system is provided by leaving the message field blank.
Already impressed by the free service is Matthew Brady of Portland, OR. "Having this is awesome. I'll check traffic before leaving my house and a couple more times during my commute. I trust this more than I trust the morning traffic reports," said Brady.
"TrafficGauge for Cell Phone gives the everyday commuter the chance to see the value of live traffic information while on the road," added Peterson. "It is really a great free trial service demonstrating the power and ease of managing your commute by knowing what lies ahead."
TG Cell is an extension of the company's successful initial product, the hand-held TrafficGauge Mobile Traffic Map, and uses the same data and traffic grids. The hand-held device is always-on and features a fixed-screen to give drivers an overview of the freeway grid; pinpointing traffic slowdowns to help make better decisions on their commute. TrafficGauge Mobile Traffic Map is an affordable and highly efficient option for frustrated commuters who want live traffic information without having to pay for expensive GPS navigation systems.
"After experiencing the benefits of the free TrafficGauge for Cell, we hope commuters will see just how important it is to have clear and accurate traffic information delivered directly where you need it most -- in your car," said Peterson.
TG Cell requires no subscription or usage fees. Users only are subject to text messaging costs as outlined by their cellular carriers. Most Cingular, Sprint, and Verizon Wireless phones have the needed text and picture messaging capability supported by TrafficGauge.
TrafficGauge also offers TrafficGauge for PC, a free download which puts real-time traffic one click away by instantly displaying freeway conditions at a home or office PC. This free download is available for all the cities offering TrafficGauge for Cell Phone. For the free download, visit: www.trafficgauge.com and click on the "Desktop PC" tab.
"TrafficGauge continues to expand its extensive traffic technology platform and deliver the least expensive, most reliable, and easiest to use traffic flow data into the hands of the consumer," Peterson added. "With traffic congestion growing faster than the transportation infrastructure can accommodate, more and more consumers are going to be looking for solutions."
About TrafficGauge
TrafficGauge® is the first real-time mobile traffic map initially launched in Seattle where TrafficGauge is headquartered. TrafficGauge's always-on, fixed-screen map gives drivers an overview of freeway grids and pinpoints traffic slowdowns to help drivers make better decisions for their commute. Data for TrafficGauge is sourced from department of transportation wire loop sensors embedded in freeways. Founded in 2001, privately-held TrafficGauge has launched practical time-saving TrafficGauge Mobile Traffic Map in Seattle, Los Angeles/Orange County, the San Francisco Bay Area and Singapore, with more cities to follow. Additionally, TrafficGauge also provides a free PC download that shows traffic information for several major U.S. cities, and currently is in BETA-testing for its TrafficGauge for Cell Phone application in those cities as well.
